MURFREESBORO, NC – The 2006-07 academic year was another great year for Chowan University. The University has seen tremendous growth campus wide within the past four years and does not seem to be slowing down.

Some of the more prominent milestones reached during the 2006-07 academic year was attaining university status and “Murf” the Hawk becoming the new athletic mascot. Both historical events in their own right.

However, many milestones have been reached behind the scenes relating directly to physical plant and capital improvements. Since January 1, 2007, numerous areas on campus were renovated, providing a better quality of life for our students.

As a result of significant financial support by Chowan alumni and friends, several areas of campus received much needed renovations. The School of Education’s Teacher Education Suite underwent a complete remodel to include new paint, carpet, and office furniture; Garrison Football Stadium underwent extensive improvements with the addition of field lights and new perimeter fencing; and Jenkins Residence Hall received interior renovation to all hallways and rooms.

Other campus renovations include upgrades to the Bermuda grass field at Garrison Stadium and the Soccer Complex; roofs for Penny Hall and Mixon Residence Hall; bathroom upgrade for Dunn Hall; landscaping; and creation on new Office Areas and the Synago Room in the Hawks Nest. The campus also received a System upgrade (Windows 2007).

During the summer, staff and faculty rolled up their sleeves to help complete campus renovations before the start of the 2007-08 year. The group assisted with landscaping and painting the Football stadium bleachers.

“Chowan University is committed to providing its students with the best possible facilities. We understand that superior facilities lead to better quality of life for our students and their educational experience,” stated Dr. Chris White, President, Chowan University. “Thanks to the financial support of Chowan alumni and friends we were able to accomplish numerous capital projects during the previous academic year,” continued White.

Chowan University has faith in its future and the futures of its students. With the assistance from donors, alumni, and friends Chowan’s opportunities are endless and the sky is the limit.
