MURFREESBORO,
NC – For the first time in the history of Chowan University, the total
endowment has exceeded the $20 million mark. This moves Chowan’s endowment
into the same range as many prestigious institutions. Chowan’s endowment
actually reached $21.5 million.
This milestone was accomplished during the 2006 – 2007 academic year in
the midst of officially attaining university status and “Murf ” the Hawk
becoming the new Mascot. Both are historical events in their own right.
Investment partners UBS Financial Services and First Citizens Bank Trust
among others have paved the way for the endowment to perform at
unprecedented levels over the past four years. Central to the success of
this accomplishment is significant donor support and a strong investment
strategy under the leadership of President Chris White and the
University’s Board of Trustees.
“Chowan is blessed to have both strong financial supporters and strong
investment partners. The combination of these groups has allowed Chowan’s
endowment to surpass the $20 million dollar mark,” stated Dr. Chris White,
President, Chowan University. “Chowan’s growth during my tenure is
remarkable. We have seen and are experiencing a magnificent resurgence
throughout campus. This resurgence would not have been possible without
donor support, or support from the community and friends of Chowan
University,” continued White.
Chowan’s vision for the future is bold. Graduate programs are on the
horizon and an adult degree completion program is scheduled to open spring
2008. The athletic program, now a full NCAA Division II member in 2007, is
currently seeking conference affiliation for all athletic teams to
complement membership with the National Christian College Athletic
Association (NCCAA).
Campus revitalization is paramount to ensure future growth. Designated
endowments provide resources for the university to meet capital needs. The
scholarship portion of the endowment affords opportunities for our
students to earn the education they deserve. Continued endowment growth
through fund performance and gifts will provide a wealth of opportunity
for the University to expand programs into the future.
Chowan University has faith in its future and the future of its students.
With the assistance from donors, Chowan’s opportunities are endless and
the sky is the limit.
