Stanley (Stan) Dixon, Jr. ’76 has become one of Chowan’s successful
businessmen. Stan grasped the opportunity to purchase Minton’s Dry
Cleaners in Ahoskie, NC and built the business as Dixon’s Quality Dry
Cleaners. After adding a single-head embroidery machine for monogramming

Ahoskie. Stitch Count has grown into a multi-faceted business offering
embroidery, screen printing, plaques and trophies, and vinyl graphics. In
addition, Stan now owns three dry cleaners and two Laundromats.
Stan plays an active role in his community. He is a member of First
Baptist Church in Ahoskie. He was a Jaycee member for several years, where
he served as President, recognized twice as Jaycee of the Year, and was
recognized by the North Carolina Jaycees as “Outstanding Local Jaycee
President.” Stan joined the Ahoskie Rotary Club in 2000 and has served on
numerous boards and committees. He is currently being groomed to become
the Rotary President in 2009. Stan is also a member of the Ahoskie Chamber
of Commerce and serves as vice-chairman of the Town of Ahoskie 2007
Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. He played an essential role in the
creation of Ahoskie Heritage Day and was one of the first who actively
campaigned for the addition of Nucor to the Roanoke-Chowan community. Stan
is also active at his alma mater. He served on the 2005 Board of Visitors
and currently serves on the 2007 Board of Trustees.

& Company, which is a member of CPAmerica International. He is actively
involved in directing audit, tax, and consulting engagements. Miley’s
specific areas of experience include acquisitions/reorganizations,
assurance services, construction accounting, taxation, and business
management.

Committee and currently serves on the American Institute of Certified

Business. He has recently accepted a position on the University’s Board of
Visitors.

Schools in Virginia and six years with Hertford County Schools upon moving
home. After completing 38 years in public education, Cecil retired in
2007.
A lifetime member of Powellsville Baptist Church, he currently is serving
on the Board of Deacons and as a Sunday School Director. His long
association with his alma mater dates to his grandfather who was employed
at Chowan during the 1920s and then to his mother who is also alum of
Chowan.

the achievements of Chowan’s four-year graduates. After graduating from
