Hugh Banks Lewis ’77
Hugh
Banks Lewis ’77 is the District Court Judge in the 26th Judicial District. He
currently presides over juvenile matters along with four “Constructive
Sentencing Courts” designed to rehabilitate early offenders and prevent further
criminal activity. Hugh was appointed to the bench in 1994, serving as a Civil
Magistrate in the 26th Judicial District from 1994 to 2000, in Small Claims and
Involuntary Judicial Hospitalization courts. He was previously in private
practice. Lewis is active in numerous professional and civic activities. Honored
in 2004 by the NAACP, Hugh received the Ashanti Award for Community Leadership.
Hugh and his wife, Barbara, reside in Charlotte, NC and have two children.
